Conversation: Visiting the Zoo 

علي: مَاذَا سَنَفْعَلُ الْيَوْمَ؟ 

Mādhā sanaf‘alu al-yawm? 

What are we going to do today? 

فاطمة: سَنَذْهَبُ إِلَى حَدِيقَةِ الْحَيَوَانَاتِ. 

Sanaḏhabu ilā ḥadīqat al-ḥayawānāt. 

We’re going to the zoo. 

علي: هَلْ هِيَ بَعِيدَةٌ عَنَّا؟ 

Hal hiya ba‘īdah ‘annā? 

Is it far from us? 

فاطمة: لَا، تَبْعُدُ حَوَالَيْ عَشَرَ دَقَائِقَ بِالسَّيَّارَةِ. 

Lā, tab‘udu ḥawālī ‘ashara daqā’iq bi as-sayyārah. 

No, it’s about ten minutes by car. 

علي: رَائِع! أَيُّ حَيَوَانٍ تُرِيدِينَ أَنْ تَرَي؟ 

Rā’i‘! Ayyu ḥayawān turīdīna an taray? 

Great! Which animal do you want to see? 

فاطمة: أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَرَى الزَّرَافَةَ وَالدُّبَّ. 

Urīdu an arā az-zarāfah wa ad-dubb. 

I want to see the giraffe and the bear. 

علي: أَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَرَى الأَسَدَ وَالْفِيلَ. 

Anā urīdu an arā al-asad wa al-fīl. 

I want to see the lion and the elephant. 

فاطمة: لَا تَنْسَ أَنْ نَذْهَبَ إِلَى بُحَيْرَةِ الطُّيُورِ. 

Lā tansā an naḏhaba ilā buḥayrat aṭ-ṭuyūr. 

Don’t forget to visit the bird lake. 

علي: نَعَمْ، وَسَنُصَوِّرُ كَثِيرًا. 

Na‘am, wa sanuṣawwir kathīran. 

Yes, and we’ll take lots of pictures. 

فاطمة: هَيَّا نَذْهَبْ إِذًا! 

Hayyā naḏhab idhan! 

Let’s go then!
